An exciting day and you are lost between the waves,
the highs and lows that rain on your parade
and leave you shaking with the resolve
to see it through this time.

But in this race the only place your grace is safe
is right by the starting line, new and unused,
smooth and unscarred.

As you face this awkward maze and find your way
in a hazy daze, you'll find your way through the thorns,
feeling each puncture draining you of your blood.

You'll move with fist and claw, ruining your body,
so smooth and unscarred til now, just to find
a shadow of yourself.

Another ending day and you have got so far to go
and still the bruises show and ring with pain
to leave you wondering if this is worth
the years you spend in vain.

As you near the rewards,
the one you'll never hope to reach
lies entombed beneath,
under the scars.
